It’s About Time!!!

Those who live in locations where civilization has taken root are often amazed at the screwy liquor laws in Utah. And that collection of village idiots, the Utah State Legislature, tinkers with them constantly so it’s not easy to keep up on what the current rules are. But one rule stays the same: It’s totally, absolutely, completely illegal to buy liquor in Utah from anyone except “ABC”. (”Alcoholic Beverage Control” - Some government organizations call themselves a “service”. Not ABC. Their real mission is in their name.)
Funny Fact: Utah passed the final vote needed to ratify the 21st Amendment that got rid of prohibition in the US. But Utah managed this in spite of the energetic efforts of the LDS Church.
St. George has an even more “controlling” history than the rest of the state. For example, St. George outlawed liquor in 1911, fully nine years before prohibition. So it was not too surprising to discover that there was only one liquor store in the whole town! (929 West Sunset Blvd - the intersection of Bluff Street with the road to Santa Clara). But I’m happy to announce that a second one is now under construction and will probably even be open in time for Christmas. (But, regretably, not in time for Conference. Always a busy time for the liquor stores.)
It will be twice as big as the existing store. You’ll find it at 900 East Red Hills Parkway. I was hoping for something in Washington or Hurricane, but this will still cut twenty minutes off my driving time!
Utah’s gain will be Lee’s loss! (Lee’s Liquor in Mesquite, Nevada, conveniently located just north of the freeway and just forty minutes down I-15 from St. George!)

It is obvious to me that you are having a heck of a lot of fun writing this blog. It amazes me that you continue to come up with very interesting stuff that nobody but you ever knew about before! And your writing is very good - some of the best stuff you’ve written. (But then, everything you write is very good.) I enjoy every blog I read just a whole, whole lot.
Have you and Roxy been to Grafton? Have you been to the top of the mesa? Nto going to ask if you’ve been to the liquor store; I know the answer to that!
Anyway, I’m real glad you decided to do this. It’s a GREAT site! You should be MOST proud of you (I am proud of you).
Great!
Now if I can get someone to read this site besides my sister …
Of course I’ve been to Grafton!
1 - Who do you think took the pictures?
2 - It’s just a couple of miles down the road.
Sheesh!
