The Peoples Republic of Springdale(With Apologies to Jonathan Swift)

The Peoples Republic of Springdale, one of the most delightful places in Color Country, has been a leader in making their position known on national and world events. In the past, they have passed official resolutions supporting the Kyoto Protocol and opposing the Toquop power plant in Nevada. But I read in the news this morning that Brattleboro, Vermont may be ahead of us in another opportunity to demonstrate world leadership. According to the Times Argus of Vermont, a “successful petition drive … will let the town vote at Town Meeting on whether President George Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney should be charged with war crimes.”

Makes sense to me. After all, a new study by the Center for Public Integrity has documented 935 lies that Bush and his top aides made in the two years following 9/11 to drag America into the war. Given the hundreds of thousands of deaths, including 3941 US soldiers, I think Bush and Cheney qualify for war criminal status. But then, that’s just me.

Now if we could just get the Springdale Town Council behind the movement …

“Brattleboro, Vermont may be ahead of us in another opportunity to demonstrate world leadership.”

Result is equal to closing the gate after the cows are wandering and bragging about it.

Oh and soon as Ted is put in jail for murdering that little girl, oh and the Clinton’s as well prosecuted for all the crimes they have committed, then we should all get together and beat the hell outta Bush.

Kyoto is nothing but a scheme of taking money from what would end up being the US and allowing the UN to distribute it. At the same time is takes nothing from China who is creating an evr increasing CO2 machine. That is smart!

Maybe what Springdale needs is a remedial reading program and a short course on economics? :)

All that is left to do with Bush is make sure he only sells pardons to deserving persons. Oh and that the money goes to the US Treasury and not his brothers campaign fund.

And here I used to think you didn’t like Democrats. Now I find that you don’t like anybody.

Ah gotta ad-mit. That is at least fair and consistent.

BRATTLEBORO, Vt. – A town petition making President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney subject to arrest for crimes against the Constitution has triggered a barrage of criticism from people who say residents are “wackjobs” and “nuts.”

In e-mail messages, voicemail messages and telephone calls, outraged people are calling the measure the equivalent of treason and vowing never to visit Vermont.

“Has everyone up there been out in the cold too long?” said one.

“I would like to know how I could get some water from your town,” said another. “It’s obvious that there is something special in it.”

The petition has no legal standing, since the town attorney has no authority to write an indictment and the police have no authority to arrest Bush or Cheney if either visits Brattleboro.

Is there some sort of inter-dimensional membrane between Virgin and Springdale?
You go from UN black helicopters to anti-Bush pogroms in ten miles.

I’ve always thought that cultural divide was fascinating too. We see each other in regional events and manage not to reach for our guns. (Oops … forgot … we’re not packin’ and they are.)

But I’ve been in cities where one side of a street was a totally different culture than the other side – even a different language. So it’s not unprecedented.
