Celebrate Zion in Salt Lake

Mayor Phillip Bimstein was really good for Color Country. Looking back, you can date the transition of Springdale from a community torn among rival special interest groups to a community united by common goals to his eight years as mayor. Before Mayor Bimstein, I was a property owner in Springdale, but a resident of Salt Lake. I wondered what I might be getting myself into as I read about Springdale Town Council meetings that were written up in “News of the Weird” because of the fights.
If you want to reconnect with Phillip again, you’ll have a great opportunity on March 4 at Abravanel Hall in Salt Lake City. Phillip’s music group, the Red Rock Rondo, will be ”performing music celebrating the history and contemporary life of Zion National Park and its neighboring communities.” So, although we don’t see as much of Phillip as we used to, Phillip has clearly never left us in spirit.
The evening will be headlined by British anthropologist Jane Goodall, famous for her work in Africa studying chimpanzee social and family life; and author and environmentalist Terry Tempest Williams.
You can read more about the event, and buy tickets, at the ArtTix Web Site.
I just called and purchased a ticket. Thank you, Dan!
Just wanted to tell those of you who were not able to attend this event (last night at Abravanel Hall in Salt Lake City), it was a fantastic evening! Dr. Jane Goodall related many facts to us and, I hope and feel, inspired her audience. Terry Tempest Williams was eloquent, made me cry, and enlightened us as to the interconnectedness of life. And Philip Bimstein and Red Rock Rondo, all of the members of the group, played music and related stories that told us why saving nature is important. One of the song/stories they performed, “My Little Town,” is about Springdale. According to the program, “Red Rock Rondo was recently selected to play a signature role in the upcomint 2009 centennial celebration of Zion National Park, ‘A Century of Santuary 1909 - 2009.’”
I was a stellar evening, and I wouldn’t have known about it without you and your blog, Dan. Thank you.
