John McCain Sells His Soul

… to Karl Rove.

John McCain has evidently decided between the choices of being true to what he believes in and getting elected. Or maybe getting elected is what he believes in. Whatever, expect to see a slicker, more focused McCain image from now on. He’s sold out to the very forces that he used to condemn and the same ones that did him wrong in 2000, the last time he ran for President.

To refresh your memory, Karl Rove invented dirty tricks like the phony telephone poll in South Carolina that asked voters, “Would you be more or less likely to vote for John McCain…if you knew he had fathered an illegitimate black child?” Since McCain was campaigning with his dark-skinned daughter that he adopted from an orphanage in Bangladesh, it put into motion a whisper campaign that turned the tide against him in one of the last strongholds of the old Confederacy.

Now McCain has reorganized his campaign and turned it over to Steve Schmidt, tossing out the old manager.

Who is Steve Schmidt? He worked for Dick Cheney and managed the Supreme Court confirmations of John Roberts and Samuel Alito. He was an insider in Karl Rove’s “Breakfast Club” that made the political decisions for the White House. Schmidt’s firm even provided a home for Rove disciple Tim Griffin after he was forced out by the scandal when it was revealed that the federal prosecutor in Little Rock was fired to make a job available for him.

I liked McCain a lot more when he was down to his last “straight talk express” bus. That slogan seemed to fit a lot better then.

Whether you like Obama or not, it seems pretty clear that he runs his campaign rather than the campaign running him. But McCain is getting closer all the time to the Bush model of a hollow candidate filled with toxic, “do anything to win” managers.

Well, since McCain and Obama secured the nominations of their respective parties, all the attention has been with Obama. No one seems to be paying any attention to McCain. But with Karl Rove involved, things will change! I expect to see more negative attention paid to Obama and McCain’s name in the news more often now. Karl Rove is a scary, scary man.

Why is it I just can’t get out of my mind the picture of OBama stepping from the doorway (by the way a position far above the heads of ordinary men )of a powerful aircraft, and after a humble(?) gesture to the waiting peons he majestically walks down the steps , alone ? Let’s not share this moment with anyone. It’s not smart P R.

And the reason I can’t get this out of my mind is…Again, here is the work of another Political Psychologist. Not Karl Rove but someone who knows something about the gulible American voter. Max

“Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.”

There’s no doubt that all candidates pay special attention to these subtle psychological clues these days. As I browse the photo-op’s, I don’t see Obama in that role any more frequently, however.

Maybe you’re asking the right question, “Why is it that you can’t get that out of your mind?”
