If you think this election was a barn-burner …

The news is filled with the splintering of the McCain campaign into pro- and anti-Palin factions playing the blame game for losing the election. (And if they don’t know who’s gonna win and who’s gonna lose, who does? My Fantasy is looking more possible every day.)

Former Prime Minister of England (and Bush co-conspirator) Tony Blair commented on a talk show recently that the difference between the English and the American electorial system was that they have a six week campaign every six years or so and we have a four year campaign every four years.

It seems that the next one is starting early – even before the conclusion of this one.

Lots of writers are speculating that the reason Palin is out of control is that she is positioning herself for another run in 2012. It’s certainly true that she’s getting noticed more than anybody else in the campaign, even more than Obama and McCain. (And whatever happened to old Joe Biden. Is he still alive?)

Since the Democrats will undoubtedly run their previous champion, all the action is in what will happen on the Republican side. In addition to Palin, the election handicappers are picking through the lineup with favorites like Rudy Giuliani, Mike Huckabee, Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal, and Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour.

No way. It’ll be the Mittster!

Anybody who counts him out just doesn’t understand the principal of ‘eternal progression’.

Next time, it will be a genuine battle for the ’soul’ of the Republican Party. And I don’t mean maybe. It’ll be the deep and sincere commitment of Palin’s Pentecostalism versus the deep and sincere commitment of the Mittster’s Mormon faith.

I can’t wait.

“The Fire Next Time” is actually a book by James Baldwin that was so inspirational in it’s time that the title has been added to the language of our culture.
