The Official Start of the 2012 Campaign
0 Comments Published January 30th, 2009 in National and International Issues.Aaaaannnd, First off the starting block, it’s the Mittster!
I’ve expressed some deep reservations about the wisdom of Obama’s financial stimulus on this page. But since the Republicans voted against it as a block, I’m starting to wonder if I’m wrong. Although I’ve questioned the wisdom of flooding the world with more dollars, the Republican solution is actually worse. They don’t mind running incredibly huge deficits. (Check out the record of Reagan, Bush, and Bush in item 7 in the article The Worst of All Worlds.) They just want these deficits to be created by tax cuts. It seems like this is the Republican ‘hammer’ and every problem in the world is a ‘nail’.
- People can’t afford health care? Tax cuts!
- Bridges, water systems, and roads are falling apart? Tax cuts!
- Companies laugh at the rules because enforcement agencies are gutted? Tax cuts!
This Republican insistance on just one answer marks the official start of the 2012 presidential campaign. Obama made the unprecedented step of visiting Republicans personally on Capitol Hill to try to create bipartisan support. Republicans pretty much spit on his outstretched hand. Not a single Republican in the House voted to support the President’s stimulus package.
And Expectorator in Chief: The Mittster – Mitt Romney, a man dear to the hearts of Utahns everywhere. The spirit of “I’m a uniter, not a divider!” lives on. Romney said his goal is to support the country first. Right! Since our biggest problem is a lack of confidence in the economy, the Mittster is doing his part by trying to destroy confidence in the plan that was enacted. It seems a lot of Republicans are just itching to see Obama (and the country) fail so they can point their finger. — And get back into power.
Romney congratulated the House Objectorati saying that Obama’s plan should not have been approved because it doesn’t include real tax cuts. It does include tax cuts.
I guess they’re not ‘real’ because they don’t go to rich people who don’t need them.
