You just can’t see ‘em.

It’s a red letter day here in Color Country. As we were having our morning coffee before the sun comes up, the birds pointed out two different rattlesnakes in different places. That’s a first! We have only seen one at a time before. We must be on some sort of migration route. Either that, or word has gotten around about what tasty corn-fed chipmunks can be found here.

I’ve written before about how you just can’t see them unless you know exactly where to look. And even then, they’re like an optical illusion because one second you can’t see anything and the next second … there it is!

Camoflauged Rattlesnake

The birds told me about the one in the picture above. Can’t see him? He’s directly in the center of the photo. I took my wife out to see him and she couldn’t see him from six feet away until I described exactly where to look. Click on the photo to see a zoomed in version.

Tarantula

We’re seeing a lot of wildlife these days. This handsome fellow walked right across our patio a few days ago. And I saw the smallest little kingsnake I have ever seen yesterday. He was only about as big as a medium sized fishing worm. He must have only been days old at most.
