ColorComments.com reader Steven Purhonen (in the comments to Zion Lodge Stories) volunteered to read some of my other writing. Since the offer, and my acceptance, were here in ColorComments.com, I thought I would post the first chapter here too. I’m not sure if I’m going to post the rest or not. Maybe I’ll work it out with Steve.

The Utah culture frames this story about a Mormon leader who destroys the United States to create his own religious empire in the mountain west.

Four friends find themselves in a plot to eliminate the US government in a domestic terrorist strike. The first believes he can gather ultimate power into his own hands by exploiting the beliefs and institutions of Utah Mormons. The second must confront conflicts of love, friendship, patriotism, and faith. The third is the victim of circumstances beyond his control. And the fourth is the woman who binds their lives together.

Fact essays alternate with fiction to draw the reader into the unique world of the Mormons that makes the story a possibility today. The national political climate is perfect for this fiction and fact based view inside today’s Mormon culture. Neither pro- nor anti-Mormon, The OMS will appeal to mainstream audiences inside and outside the Utah culture.
